Above the drainage rock, we install a thick layer of silica sand. This is a specialized, high heat material. We do not use play sand or beach sand. Silica sand is stable under extreme temperatures and does not pop or crack when the burner is running. Finally, we finish the look with high quality fire pit glass on top. This is the only part you actually see, but it relies entirely on the three layers beneath it to stay clean and functional.

Can I hose down the fire pit if it gets dusty? Yes, and we actually recommend it. Living in the desert means dust is a constant battle. Since our pits are designed to drain perfectly, you can take a garden hose and spray right into the glass to wash away the Arizona dust. The water will disappear through the layers just like rain would, leaving your glass looking brand new.

Will the fire glass ever need to be replaced? The glass itself does not wear out or melt. As long as the internal layers are doing their job, the glass should last for years.
